An Umbrella of Protection by Rod Barnes
Inspired by one my Pastor's messages I recently went in search of information concerning our nations military defenses particularly in the Pacific region of our world. The United States Pacific Command includes combined forces from the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines in an area covering over 50 percent of the earth’s surface and over 60 percent of the world’s population. They have built an umberella of defense over the western half of the United states and as far east as Africa to ensure our security from aggression.
God, similarly has provided us with a defense from the aggression of spiritual forces around us. Hebrews 1:14 tells us that angels are ministering spirits sent to help God’s people. Psalm 91:11 says “For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.” Verse 12 says that they will bear us up, or keep us safe so we won’t even be injured.
These promises are contingent on our level of commitment. Verse 1 says: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Otherwise, when we take the time and effort to dwell with Him through prayer, praise, and Bible study, His wing, covering, or umbrella of defense will be over us. Then God says of us in verse 14: "Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.”
In this time of world unrest it’s good to know our nation is defended by highly trained, honorable men and women who are willing to put their lives on the line to protect us. Most of us have friends and/or family who are poised for action in case of a physical threat to our nation and our interests. It’s easy to become fearful but it’s good to know we have a Father in Heaven who is able to see what we’re facing and keep us from harm.
Ps 91:3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence.
5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.
8 Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked.
The US Pacific Command is ready and willing to defend against any aggressor, and we see through Psalm 91 that God is ready and willing to protect us and fight for us in any curcumstance. Our ministering angels are at our side to defend us. God covers us with His umbella of protection day and night when we make Him our dwelling place.
Spend time today with God. Make Him your Lord, protector, and provider every day. Study His Word and use it against fear and spiritual attack. Remember, “A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.”
